And just to show that it is not all over . . .

While Dad and I were finishing off Matt's room with help from Ivan, Mom & Elizabeth at times; other work was in progress.  Ivan was emptying Elizabeth's new room, ready for the window installation. Elizabeth yesterday, was pulling up the last of the carpet, and Mum and her were cleaning off the wallpaper.

So here are a few more photos:

Washer Woman

Having a little fun - Granny dripping water on Elizabeth, as she struggles in the small space to rip up the carpets.

Sarah sick in bed with the flu

Matthew in bed with bronchitis.
Both children were a 'great deal of help' - NOT!!  Still it kept them out of the way.  What a weekend to be sick and now Ivan is down with the flu and not at all well.
An empty room ready for painting.

There will be a window on this blank wall on Wednesday.

This is how we are living, working around the mess as we move things from room to room.

The war wounded - injuries from working.

The feeding team - lunch for the workers. Toasted cheese & tomato sandwiches - yummy.

So at the end of a long weekend (Queen's birthday holiday) - we have achieved miracles - next weekend is another big push. So look out.

Matt's room is finished !!!!!!

Today we did it - we finished Matthew's room and installed him in it - what a feeling of accomplishment.

Last bit of hard work

Almost finished

First piece of furniture in the room

Thank you Granddad for my lovely room

Beginning to look my a bedroom

Now the couch is in place

A photo taken the bed end of the room - quite amazing.
So just 6 weeks from when we first started the renovations, Matthew's room is complete and he has moved into it.  This job involved knocking down 2 cupboards and an interleading wall, filling in the ceiling, two walls, plastering, painting, and also in this time we have had the insulation in the roof completely refurbished. It is amazing to look back over the month and see where we started.

Matthew, I bless your room and wish you many hours of joy and peace in it. Health to enjoy our beautiful Son.

Dad & Mum, thank you for all your help - you have been wonderful.

Almost complete - one room down, two to go!

This is how we started
It took a while to get the room emptied and vacumed; then we started laying the underlay and boards.
The first line of boards on the underlay

I soon discovered a rhythm of tapping the boards together

Nearly done,  the room is beginning to look good.
Elizabeth and I figured how it all went together.

Matthew was confined to bed with Bronchitis

Except for a quick look at the end. I think his face says it all.

The boy and the working team
Dad was amazing as always - he walked up and down to his workshop to cut off the ends and shorten boards as needed. Elizabeth and I figured out the best way to lay the boards in rows of two at a time.

Tomorrow, we have the final row to lay, this is the most difficult as it has to fit against the side wall and the door. Too tired today, so we will tackle it tomorrow.

A change of pace

Princess Cleo has grown.  She is currently sitting on my lap and walking on my keyboard as I try to post these photos of her.  She is totally adorable and such a lovely memeber of our family.
A bundle of mischief is who has personality all of her own and delights us all with it.

So a change from rennovation photos, thought I would just share.

Sunday Spectacular

Following on from Saturday Success (my previous post) is todays.

We all had a lovely late lie-in this morning, in fact I stayed in bed until 11am to finish my book - what bliss.  Then it was up to begin painting. Ivan, Sarah and I tackled Matthew's room. Elizabeth tidied the house (she is not good with paint smells) and Matthew worked on his assignment.

This is where we started this morning, Ivan worked on the white edges, while Sarah and I had the fun of painting Matt's blue wall.
Sarah was fantastic with the roller and did most of the two coats on the blue wall, as well as helping with the white. Tomorrow, she may not be able to lift her arms. :(

The end product - Matt was so thrilled - his smile said it all.
Wow - look at that.

All the horrible yellow nearly covered - it only took two coats of white - glad I bought good paint.
Now the walls, need to dry and just a few touch ups needed.

Next weekend we lay floorboards - how exciting.
To finish the day we had a beautiful sunset.

Painting King
Ivan is a fantastic Painter, he has paitence and experience and actually enjoys it, well not the celings - then I guess no-one does.  Yesterday he did the whole ceiling in Matt's double room (two coats) - it looks fantastic.

Dad and I stayed out of the way and worked on our own 'little' project - the cornice in the new passage and Elizabeth's room - this is our wall.
The finished, plastered, messy thing is completed. It looks horrible at this stage, but all this plastering will be sanded and smoothed and then when it is painted it will look like it has always been there.

Hello Wall

Messy work
For all of you who are familiar with the movie - 'Shirley Valentine' you will know that the main character speaks to her wall - no one else in her family listens. Hence the title of this blog.
But, today it has a slightly different meaning. It is hello wall, welcome to our home.
Standing in Elizabeth's new room, looking out towards the new passage.
Elizabeth was so excited with her new room, she has wanted to help with the renovations since we started but has had university and work most of the time.  Today however, she came home at a perfect time and spent 30 mins helping me.  The funniest thing happened however, she bent down on top of the plaster bucket and . . .
