De-clutter, sort and shred

My girls helping with the shredding.
It was a cold day, so we wrapped up warm and tackled the de-cluttering.
My mini shredder worked overtime. Everything prior to 2003 is sorted, except for the tax returns from 1993 until 2002. I need to go through those carefully and then can even shred those. Yippeee!
I also managed another 5 pages of digital scrapbooking and have my 2010 album for January - March complete, ready to send off for processing in the morning. Quite a satisfying day.

A week of challenges

We are halfway through our week of challenges and so far I am pleased with my achievements.

I had two main goals, the first to achieve some serious de-cluttering. I have hundreds of envelopes filled with bank statements, cash & credit card dockets, rates, electricity & phone bills. Years of working in a banking environment taught me to keep these, but I have realised that having things dating back to 1993 is no longer necessary.

So my plan for the week, was to shred everything prior to 2003 (tax requirements). What an invigorating experience; not complete yet, but well on the way.

My second goal was to achieve some 'Digital Scrapbooking' and so far I have finished about 17 pages, I am thrilled.

It has also been a lovely week of listening to the rest of the challenge group successes.

A Possum Update

I thought I would share a little news about our rescued Possum 'Wattle'. Unfortunately, Wattle's injury turned out a little more serious than we originally thought. Her front leg is broken and is currently in a cast. Luckily Tara, our local wildlife rescuer, is looking after her and ensuring she heals completely. She will not be able to return to our garden sadly, as she will have been away for too long, but we are still hopeful that she will be able to be released back into the wild.

Along the animal rescue front - yesterday Dad (Brian) rescued a female mini-foxy that had been running in the road for over an hour. Sadly, it had no collar or microchip; it is now at our local pound, but we have posted details at all the local vets and also on our community noticeboard. Hopefully, someone claims her soon.

As far as rescuing animals go, that is all for now.

All Finished!

It is all over!

I wrote my exam for Writ1005 this morning. It was a 2 hour exam worth 40% of my grade and I wrote solidly for 2 hours. Luckily I only need to achieve 5/40 to pass the course and I feel quietly confident that this has been achieved. Unfortunately, the next level up - a '5', requires 19.5/40. This may be possible, but as long as I pass this course, I am not worried. It is another tick towards my degree and that is all that matters.

Next semester I may take 6 months off. The family, and most especially Sarah need some time, attention and lots of love. I am thinking of home-schooling Sarah over this period, but will make this decision in a couple of weeks time.

If I do decide to continue, it will probably be only one course - American literature, which will mean that I have achieved a year's worth of studying in 2 years. I am really pleased with this idea.

For now, I am planning on relaxing, de-cluttering, home-schooling my little girl, enjoying life, getting back to the gym, cooking healthy and enjoyable meals again and oh yes, Relaxing.

To everyone, thank you for your support and encouragement, it has been wonderful.

One Down, One to go!

Today Elizabeth and I finished our last essays for this semester. We both a 2000 word Australian Literature essay to write and she also had a 3rd year english essay. They are all due on Tuesday 15th June, so it was good to get them out of the way today. Mine was almost complete by this morning, just needed a little 'tweaking' and Elizabeth had one completed and almost half of the other one done.

It was with a huge sigh and then a jig about the room, that she finished at 3.30pm and we printed them all off, ready to hand in Tuesday morning first thing.

I also managed to type up 6 pages of revision for my Writing exam on Monday 21st, this is going to take a lot of work from me next week, but it is at least only one exam.

I can't believe I have finished another semester at uni. I so love studying, even the horrible work of exams and essay writing.

Rescue Mission

On Saturday afternoon we noticed our Baby Possum on the ground near the Palm Trees in our garden. We had previously seen it up the trees with its parents, and to see it during daylight on the ground was most surprising. Ivan immediately fetched a banana and it began eating it without hesitation. It was then that Sarah noticed that it had a hurt front right foot. We phoned our local Pet Store owner - Tara, who raises native birds and also possums. She said to bring it in for her to look at.

Tara was wonderful handling this lovely female possum which the girls named 'Wattle.' Today we received a very sad phonecall from Tara which let us know that Wattle has a broken front leg. This means that she is unlikely to ever return to our home, but hopefully will recover enough to be released into a safe environment.
Just thought you might enjoy a few lovely photos of our beautiful baby possum.

A new smile in the making

Sarah was fitted with her new braces today. She is 12 and all her baby teeth have fallen out and after consultation with the Orthodontist it was decided to start her treatment. It will take between 12 & 18 months and during this time they will pull her bottom jaw forward and straighten the crowding on her upper and lower jaw.
She was very good while they were being fitted and now is managing the discomfit really well.
She got to choose her colours, so chose red (her favourite colour) and purple for Mommy.
