Tinsels or Baubles?

Our local radio station was running a phone-in poll to decide whether tinsel or baubles made the best Christmas tree and it got me thinking about people's Christmas trees and decorations. Our tree has no theme or colour co-ordination, instead it is a mixture of memories. Every decoration has some sort of memory and many of them would not even be classed as true Christmas decorations. We also do both - the tinsel and the baubles.

I love the shopping centres who do elegant themes of colours and each year the decorations change. I guess like clothes if they change the themes and colour schemes we will be tempted to go out and buy new 'stuff'. Last year the theme was purple - I must admit that purple is my favourite colour, but it just did not do it for me. A white tree with purple decorations was just not Christmas.

I love the traditional green 'artificial' tree! Ours came from the USA and stands 7.5ft tall, with the Angel on top, she nearly touches the ceiling. I have never really wanted or liked 'real' trees and even when we lived in the USA was not really tempted to get one.

We have also decorated the rest of the house this year, with lots of tinsel, my Christmas village and all our other special decorations. What is your Christmas theme? Do you have a big or small tree? Is it co-ordinated or chaotic? Whatever it is, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas season and enjoy decorating your homes.

Well like you in some respects there are definitely memory decorations on our tree: our first year together, special decorations for the children and Wendy always try to add a new decoration to the collection each year - although this year she went ape! :) Like you, I also quite like busy tree yet Wendy prefers a slightly simpler tree where you can actually see each decoration so we tend not to make it claustraphobic with tinsel and stuff. Yet it still looks lovely so I bow down to her wishes in this respect. :) This year in particular however I think we have 180 lights on our tree, so it looks like fairy-land at night and very beautiful I must say (with sunglasses on :D).
Definitely not one for themed trees etc, it's just not practical to do that in a home? Kind of like having your lounge look like a hotel room - beautiful - but not practical. Thanks for sharing Beverly. Merry Christmas!

For the very first time in our married life Dad and I decided that we were not going to cover the tree in tinsel. As we spent a wonderful day together yesterday in the heat, we looked at each and very decoration and remembered the events that led up to us acquiring all these prescious memories. There was the first little picture frame of you and Ivan before you were married with Dad, Ian and I. We saved Elizabeth's dummy and called her down to put her special item on the tree. The china ballet shows were from my Mom and Dad and only I ever put these on the tree. Dad had a rocking horse and so it went on. We had memories from South Africa, memories from Americal with the Heber Railway Xmas Decoration, the American ball and even a special Creative Memories trinket. Little angels from our various friends at Bible Study in Melbourne. Little thimbles with our names on, fairies also with our names on. Funny knitted little men that we had when Ian and you were tiny. Lots of lights, a few stirngs of gold and red beads, and so it went on. Such a trip down memory lane and one never to be forgotten and we both promised ourselves that one day when there was only one, we would put up the tree, maybe with lots of tears but certainly with lots of memories. The wooden carved animals are growing to be placed by the nativity scene and the angel looking down on our baby Jesus in his cradle. What a wonderful time Christmas is, and so important we give the occassion the respect it deserves. May God Bless all who live in the world and may peace be with each one of us as we count down the sleeps till Santa arrives.
